Starting a career in modeling can be a very bold yet profitable move; however, a female model has greater chance of succeeding if she knows the type of model she wants to become. Salaries may differ from minimum wages to hourly rates.
It indicates the field is highly competitive and only the best make the "super model" grade. Aspirants need not worry, as entry packets can be quite attractive in comparison to other career options.

Do You Have What It Takes?

You may be tall, thin, with flawless skin and traditional good looks that make heads turn on the street walk. It does not guarantee you will get the best assignments possible. Businesses and brands are looking for specific models to promote their products or services. If you're lucky, you may fit the role precisely. Nevertheless, you can follow a step-by-step process that helps you get a great start to your career.

Specific Female Modeling Categories To Target

Understand all the popular modeling categories and requirements before approaching a modeling agency or agent. It is natural to try and fit into a different category of modeling.

Fashion

For example, you may be a 6', size 4 female model with strong bone structure and a unique look. On meeting other criteria like healthy hair and good complexion, aim to become a fashion, editorial, or female runway model if you choose.

Physically Fit?

Fitness models have a muscular physique with well-toned muscles and attractive face. Similarly, plus-size models offer more appeal to manufacturers specializing in plus-size fashion attire. Such models can be on the heavier side but need a proportioned body, shapely legs, and great skin.

Commercial Female Models Look Good

Commercial print models have a very attractive face, winning smile with white teeth, and a clear complexion. You may wonder how these parameters can be gauged. Fashion photographers have the latest technology to enhance beauty and reinvent personality. What they need is basic requirements in the model for a specific brand. Once you are able to identify and fit into a particular category, getting a lucrative modeling contract is not that difficult.

Present Yourself As A Disciplined Professional

Female modeling is a glamorous profession allowing you the freedom of expression on a runway ramp or other platforms. Time is of paramount importance in the profession. Arriving early for modeling agency interviews, casting calls, and assignments is a sign of a professional.

Building up rapport with clients with an endearing nature, fun-loving attitude, and punctuality is a gateway to future assignments from the same client.

Get Your First Female Model Job First

There are no small or big jobs in modeling. Be prepared to accept the smallest assignment, provided you get the hourly rate expected. It may vary from time to time depending on the number of years of experience in the field.

Creating A Professional Modeling Portfolio Increases Confidence

Many agencies go through great lengths presenting a model to suit certain brands. It results in them investing a great deal of money building credentials. If you take the initiative to hire a professional photographer and software to prepare an attractive, professional portfolio, it shows you are serious about a career in modeling.

An initial approach to modeling agents or clients with a portfolio can make a considerable difference in assessment. For instance, approaching a local talent agency is easier than trying out an international modeling agency of repute. It depends on your needs and aspirations. A female model has a great chance to excel in a category best suited for her personality and physical attributes.

What To Do To Become Into A Fitness Model

Don't change for anyone. Draw a line in the sand and decide for yourself what you are willing to do to achieve your goal of becoming a fitness model. Only you can decide what is best for you in the making of a good, positive and sustainable career.
Be mindful of what image you portray at all times; what you "put out there" and how people perceive you. What I'm trying to say is – keep it PG. You don't work as hard as you do for someone to compare you to a lady of the night.

Don't take every opportunity that comes along – be cautious and always do your research. Ask for client information, backgrounds and websites, as well as portfolios, of photographers and agencies. A legitimate photographer or agency should have all these items at your request and should be more than willing to share their work and references. If not, it may be for the best to pass up an opportunity – when just starting out; your safety should be top of mind.

Have a friend who is a photographer, or an acquaintance? Don't be afraid to reach out to them and ask to swap time for talent – they shoot and get to build their portfolio at the same time you do.

When you're a fitness model, all eyes and ears are on you at all times. You aren't just a pretty face or 6-pack abs, you're a role model – the image of health and fitness – don't take that lightly. Men and women alike will look to you for a positive image of health. What you do on and off the stage/shoot matters. Stand for something aside from yourself – be selfless – and have the drive to want to help people and make a difference in their lives by being a public figure for health and fitness.

Do your homework and practice posing – find which positions work best to show off your features. Essentially; BRING IT! "You don't have to have the best body in the world; it's not about that. It's about showing off YOUR physique in YOUR best angles, together with the facial expressions that meet the needs of that particular shoot and client"

The last shoot I was on, everyone on set was silent – it was odd. So, I asked, "everything alright"? To which the designer replied, "everything's great you know you're doing incredible when we don't say a word". I did my homework – identified with what the client was looking for before I stepped foot on shoot, and delivered.

So, come prepared to a shoot with a sense of what works best for you. And, if provided direction, take it – every photo shoot is essentially an opportunity to learn; the folks on location are professionals and are there to be sure you look your best. They'll help you hit your posing, but do your part first and bring something to the table.

Eat clean and continue to train in order to maintain a physique that could accommodate a shoot within two weeks – it's a great piece of motivation to help keep you in tip-top shape for a shoot. Sometimes, you won't have more notice than two weeks for an upcoming shoot.

Cheesa And Mathai Sent Packing On "The Voice"

Cheesa
On Monday's episode of "The Voice," coaches Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine instantly eliminated James Massone and fan favorite Pip after both gave middling performances. On Tuesday night (April 24), after America's vote saved former Mouseketeer Tony Lucca and Jamar Rogers, Katrina Parker and Mathai from Team Adam and Cheesa and Juliet Simms from Team Cee Lo were given one last shot to stay in the competition by performing to earn their respective judge's lone save.

Florence and the Machine opened the show in typically ethereal fashion with their new single "Breath of Life" from the "Snow White and the Huntsmen" soundtrack. Surrounded by ballerinas in flowing dresses and backed by Team Cee Lo, Florence Welch's belting had coach Christina Aguilera nodding along in her chair.

“The pressure for the coaches is enormous,” Executive Producer Mark Burnett tells The Hollywood Reporter. “What they’re doing now is they’re taking their 12 members of their team and narrowing them down to six for the live shows.”

We just met Cheesa this week, but come Monday Cee Lo Green pits her against former Air Force officer and viral video star, Angie Johnson on Bonnie Tyler’s "Total Eclipse Of The Heart."

“What a great, great version of that song,” Burnett says. “I’ve always loved that song. I thought it was a great, great choice that Cee Lo makes in that battle.”

“It’s tough to decide who should win,” he adds. “They’re still in competition, but they’re doing justice to the song and justice to Cee Lo. And working as a unit, which I think is such a great element of this show.”
Up first in Tuesday's sing-off was Team Adam's Mathai, who changed up her quirky indie style radically to show off a different side of her voice by going country with Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova." Her teammate Katrina Parker followed and delivered yet another full-voiced performance, this time of Pink's "Perfect.

Blake called Katrina "the best singer on [Adam's] team," and Christina agreed, complimenting her song choice and saying that of anyone on Adam's team, Katrina was the singer Xtina was most interested in hearing original material from.

Adam had a tough time with the decision. A really, really tough time. As in, he went on and on about how both singers had come into their own late in the competition and how they had surprised him throughout. He was effusive with praise and rambled on like he was trying to delay the inevitable. Finally, he went with the same big voice he saved last time around.

Adam's Save: Katrina Parker
Team Cee Lo's last-chance singers took the stage next. Cheesa's faithful take on "Already Gone" earned a pretty tough technical critique from all the judges, with each commenting that she was under pitch for the entire performance until the final note, which she nailed. They went easier on Simms, who sang Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," but Christina still was vocal about wanting more from the singer.

Cee Lo was as complimentary as Adam but far more decisive.

'Star Trek 2' A 'Special Experience' For Alice Eve

Much like the lock and key that all "Star Trek" plot details were kept under during filming the first time around, the same goes for the untitled "Trek" sequel. We know which key players are back in place, alongside new additions Benedict Cumberbatch, as the unidentified villain, and actress Alice Eve, but we don't know exactly how the sequel's story will unfold.

When MTV News caught up with Eve recently during the press day for her upcoming period thriller "The Raven," we attempted to find out a few more details about what character she might be playing in asking how long she spends in the makeup chair each day before filming.

"I'm a healthy amount of time in the makeup chair — though not as long as Spock," Eve revealed. "We were filming until very late last night, and I know that's all I can say. It's a top-secret operation; it's like a war."

The stars were out in force this evening at the New York premiere of thriller film The Raven.

However they were overshadowed by the movie’s female lead Alice Eve, who outshone everyone in her sweet ensemble.

The British actress looked every inch the English rose in her floaty powder blue mini dress and embellished heeled sandals.

A host of other celebrities were also seen walking the red carpet at the premiere, which was held at the Sunshine Landmark cinema.

Playback actress Jennifer Missoni bared her midriff in a pink top and low-rise jeans while DJ Chelsea Leyland opted for a summery white lace mini-dress.

Meanwhile Sting’s daughter and The Borgias actress Bridget Michael Sumner, known as Mickey, looked lovely in a floral printed shift dress that was cinched in at her waist with a navy belt that matched her suede ankle boots.

Although Eve is new to the "Trek" family, two of her co-stars are very familiar faces, Cumberbatch and Simon Pegg, with whom Eve worked on "Starter for 10" and "Big Nothing," respectively. When asked how the reunion has been, Eve broke out into a wide grin, saying, "Both of them I've worked with before, and it's a true, true pleasure to see them again. Really fun."

Eve went on to tease that her fans will be surprised by "a few things" about her performance in the film and re-emphasized the fact that she's having a blast on set. "I'm having a lot of fun, and it's a very special experience to be on J.J.'s [Abrams] movies," she said. "He's a real good leader."

The British beauty has equated the atmosphere on set with going to camp or school. "When there's a group of people who you can spend time with and work with and get to know, a real good experience, it's kind of like going back to university or something, when everyone has got the same objective," Eve told MTV News. "There's a lot of energy, and it's a nice thing to be a part of that group. That's the thing that excites me most about it. Obviously, there is a huge legacy there with 'Star Trek' and the fanatics, so hopefully they'll be satisfied."

"American Idol": Leaving Top 7 Finalists Intact

American Idol finalist Jessica Sanchez has been "saved."Although she received the fewest home viewer votes following Wednesday night's performance show, which featured the Top 7 finalists performing songs released in the year 2010 until today, Sanchez was allowed to remain in American Idol's eleventh-season competition when the show's judges unanimously decided to use their one-time "The Judges' Save" ability to prevent her ouster during Thursday night's live results show broadcast on Fox.

"Give me that [microphone]! This is crazy! Yes, we're using 'the save!' You're not going home. Go sit down, go sit down," Idol judge Jennifer Lopez told Sanchez after she ran onstage and cut the singer off mid-performance as she was "singing for her life" in attempt to impress the judges and hopefully remain in the running to be crowned the next American Idol champion.

"This is a first. So the judges get one 'save' during the season and they've got to use it by the Top 5," Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced.

"We are saving Jessica without any doubt," judge Randy Jackson said. "Let me just say this for myself, [fellow judge Steven Tyler] and Jennifer. This girl is one of the best singers in America -- ever. Are you kidding me?! Please everybody, please vote for the best. It's about finding the best. I mean, come on."

Sanchez, a 16-year-old from San Diego, CA, seemed thrilled yet shocked the judges went out on a limb for her to the point where Jackson was pleading with America to keep her around.

"As you saw [the judges] getting out of their seats, what was going through your mind?" Seacrest asked Sanchez.

"Nothing," said a stunned Sanchez.

"Were you surprised to be standing here at the end of the show?" Seacrest questioned.

"No, not at all. I don't expect anything. I just do what I do and whatever happens, happens. I just want people to know I've been working hard my whole life," Sanchez explained.

"A lot of people across the country, I'm sure, were surprised to see you standing up here, and the judges did the right thing. Congratulations Jessica," Seacrest told the young performer.

Prior to Sanchez's "save" by the judges, Seacrest had revealed that Elise Testone, a 28-year-old from Charleston, SC, and Joshua Ledet, a 19-year-old from Westlake, LA, were the other members of the week's bottom three vote-getters.

Sanchez was not the only bottom-three member who left the Idol judges dumbfounded over how the vote had turned out. Although Jackson, Lopez and Tyler did not announce they were disappointed America also put Ledet in the bottom three, based on their comments from Wednesday night's performance show along with those of Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine, he did not deserve to be in that position.

"Eleven seasons I've been doing this show. I've never seen this happen. This is a ridiculous bottom three. America, I've never said this. They got it wrong tonight baby. They got it so wrong," Jackson said after Seacrest had revealed the week's bottom three.

"Steven, one of these faces could be leaving the show tonight if you guys don't use your 'save.' What happened with the vote?" Seacrest asked.

"We're going to use our card tonight, especially with an outcome like this." Tyler noted.

Sanchez -- who was one of the 10 finalists voted into the season's Top 13 by home viewers -- had received raving reviews from the judges following her performance of "Stuttering" by Jazmine Sullivan on Wednesday's performance show.

"Let me say this first. A lot of people probably don't know, but I love the arrangement you did with the song... What you did tonight is you set the bar really high. You said 'I've been singing these songs, I've been doing my thing and now I need to show everyone what kind of talent level I have," Jackson explained.

"Dude, that was superb. That was at the highest degree. Yo, the control you singing, you scatting and all of this -- the song that you chose by this girl, this girl is ridiculous herself. Dude, you did an amazing job on this song. To me, right now, you slayed the biggest fish of the night. This song was the toughest one to sing. Congratulations."

"Jessica, that was really beautiful and I think my favorite part was right in the middle. You really started digging. You started digging a little bit more. I saw it. You were like, 'I'm going to tell this story. I'm going to dig a little deeper. And I feel like you have, probably more than anybody, an amazing opportunity to really take this audience -- this American Idol audience -- America on a ride like they've never been," Lopez told Sanchez.

"We have a few weeks left here, and I think what I want to see from you are a couple of Joshua-type performances in how impactful they are, because we know that you sing like nobody we've ever heard sing. That's the way I feel sometimes when listening to you. It's just amazing. But now, take us for a ride every week. We only have a few weeks left. You can do it, you can do it. You can show us something we've never seen. I want to see it! I want to be here and watch it!"

"Jessica, every time I hear you sing, I forget where I am. I forget where I am, but America doesn't forget. You slay it every time -- not only have the nerve to sing that song with such a beautiful melody, but you also had the nerve to wear Jennifer's shoes," Tyler joked.

America’s Next Top Model Star Told How She Crashed Into The Language Barrier

The Caledonian beauty making a splash in the latest series of America’s Next Top Model yesterday told how she crashed into the language barrier.

Producers have been forced to put up subtitles after Stateside viewers complained they couldn’t understand 22-year-old Ashley Brown’s West Lothian accent.

Mum-of-two Ashley admits the other contestants, judges and even show host supermodel Tyra Banks often had no idea what she was saying.

But now she has hit back, saying her accent makes more sense than producers dressing her up as Princess Diana.

America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion, which pits seven UK beauties against seven US rivals, is airing now in the States and will be shown in Britain in the autumn.

In the opening episode, Ashley is seen struggling to communicate with a stylist and the other models.

Now back home in Armadale but staying tight-lipped on the outcome of the show, Ashley said: “I got on so well with all the other contestants but knew from day one that the American girls could not understand me.

“I remember phoning my mum and saying, ‘I bet they put up subtitles when the show airs’ and they have. How funny.

“I was speaking slowly and politely so I don’t know how they would have coped if I had unleashed the full force of my Scottish accent.

“Even Tyra looked at me blankly every time I spoke and I had to repeat lots of what I was saying. It became a real laugh.”

Ashley took part in the British version of the show three years ago but was slated by viewers and fell out with her fellow contestants.

The bubbly brunette and her children, Alysha, six, and three-year-old Jay, are delighted she has a second chance to show her true self.

She is the only Scot in the show, which features Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle, singer Kelly Osbourne and TV host Cat Deeley as guest judges.

American TV critics have warmed to Ashley, who broke down in tears after narrowly avoiding the boot from the opening show.

Ashley, who has been with partner Scott Clarkson, 22, for two years, said: “I swore I’d never do another reality TV show but I couldn’t pass up such a great opportunity.

“I went in with the attitude that I was not going to start any trouble because I knew my mum would give me a row when I got home.

“Britain’s Next Top Model was three years ago and people change, so I’m glad I am coming across better this time.”

Ashley endured abuse from strangers after the UK show, in which she had several bust-ups with fellow contestants. Jibes about her kids and comments about stretch marks triggered tantrums and angry outbursts.

She admitted: “I am really embarrassed about the way I came across on the British show. Part of it was my own fault and part of it was the way it was edited.

“I talked about my kids all the time but they never showed it so I was slated for being a bad mum. I’ve shed a lot of tears over it all.

“I’m a good mum and want my daughter to be proud of me, so I’m delighted the American show is revealing my true character.”

Ashley’s mum Kath Emerson, 43, who runs a business magazine, is proud of her daughter. She said: “Ashley is a great girl and everybody loves her. It was horrible to see the way she came across on the UK show.

“This time everyone is getting to see her as the outgoing and happy-go-lucky person she really is. She really behaved herself and we couldn’t be more proud.

“Ashley works very hard and deserves to go all the way to the top.”

Episode five of the fight to win a career-launching modelling contract in the US airs this Wednesday in the States and Ashley is still in the race.

Tasks have included a kids’ party photoshoot with the Kardashians and a shoot at Thunder Road, featured in the movie Grease.

In the first episode, Ashley ended up in the bottom two after being made up as Princess Diana.

She said: “The tasks have been amazing and it was fabulous meeting the Kardashians but why they made me dress up as Diana, I will never know.

“We were to pose as someone famous from our home country. I tried to tell them Diana was not a Scot, but they would not listen.”

Ashley can’t reveal how far she gets in the competition but admits it was one of the best experiences of her life, even though she has not watched one single episode.

She said: “I stopped watching the UK show after four episodes as my behaviour was making me cringe and I’ve no intention of ever watching the American one. I cannot bear to hear or see myself on TV.”

Ashley, who has a black belt in Taekwondo and won silver fighting big sister Nicole, 24, in the final of the Scottish championships last month, plans to start a modelling school.

She said: “It will be for girls from all walks of life. They don’t have to be model material.

“I want to give girls more self-confidence and as well as teaching them how to walk, I will be teaching them how to defend themselves.

“All my family are mad about Taekwondo. My dad David is a master and Nicole and I are always battling it out for titles.”

Hayden Panettiere Is A Style Superstar Who We Love

ABC has picked up the pilot of a new drama series, 'Nashville,' a family soap set in the music industry, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show, which at this point will only film the first episode, stars Hayden Panettiere ('Heroes') as breakout musical sensation Juliette Barnes and Connie Britton ('Friday Night Lights') as Rayna, the 40-year-old superstar mother of two, who has been forced to tour with the up-and-comer.

Previously announced cast members include Eric Close ('Without a Trace') as Rayna's loyal husband, along with Powers Boothe ('24'), Sam Palladio ('The Hour'), Clare Bowen ('Home and Away'), Jonathan Jackson ('General Hospital') and Robert Wisdom ('The Wire').

It's Hayden Panettiere! Hayden's long-sleeved take on the classic Greek goddess-style gown was described as "too nun-like" by some other fashion critics, but we dig its quirky appeal. The tomato-red color is great on Hayden, and makes the modest cut that much more interesting...and let's face it, the bright yellow clutch and sky-high python-print shoes make this a look that's much too fresh and wild for the nunnery. And while things got a little crazy from the back—the dress has a keyhole detail topped by a miles-long bow that reached nearly to her knees—the actress' big, confident smile goes to show that sometimes, the best fashion is also just for fun.

And our other lady in red? Erika Christensen, who wiggled her way into this ultra-glam long-sleeved look for the Costume Designers Guild Awards this week. And while the va-va-voom vibe of this body-hugging gown is perfect for the occasion, we can't help noticing that it fits more like a weak handshake. Erika's gorgeous figure is being showcased not at all by the saggy bodice and bunching across the hips. The biggest surprise? That not one of the costume designers on hand pulled her into the ladies' room for some lickety-split alterations.

Oscar winner Callie Khouri, who won for writing 'Thelma & Louise,' has partnered with R.J. Cutler to write and executive produce 'Nashville.' Cutler will direct the show's pilot, which Deadline.com describes as "about love, country music, family, politics and sex."

In addition to her acting career, Hayden has a slew of singing credits. Her debut single, 'Wake Up Call' was released in 2008. She also has a variety of songs that can be found on various movie soundtracks, including 'Ice Princess,' 'Cinderella III: A Twist in Time' and 'Hoodwinked Too!'

ABC Pilot Casting: Hayden Panettiere Heads to 'Nashville', Ashley Greene Goes 'Americana'

Hayden Panettiere is plotting her primetime TV comeback by landing a role in ABC's pilot "Nashville". The 22-year-old, who is best known for playing cheerleader Claire Bennet on "Heroes", will play a teen sensation named Juliette Barnes, Deadline reports.

Set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene, the new drama revolves around a 40-year-old superstar Rayna James, whose star begins fading. She is forced to team up with Juliette on tour in order to maintain her label's support for her latest record, whose sales have been underwhelming.

Prior to Panettiere, Robert Wisdom, Powers Boothe, Clare Bowen and Jonathan Jackson have been cast in "Nashville". The pilot, which is described as a family soap about love, country music, family, politics and sex, is written by Callie Khouri and will be directed by R.J. Cutler.

It doesn't happen every day that two pretty celebs show up in our weekly fashion feed wearing dresses on a distinct theme—but that's exactly what happened this week, when one beautiful blonde went head-to-toe red in a long-sleeved, body-hugging, floor-sweeping gown...and then another showed up in a slightly less-formal take on the same hue and silhouette. But while one of them tickled our fancy, the other just cramped our style file. Who's this week's Style Superstar?
In another ABC pilot development, Ashley Greene has signed up for "Americana". The Alice Cullen of "Twilight" movie series takes the female lead role, Alice Clarke, and will star opposite Anthony LaPaglia.

LaPaglia plays iconic fashion designer Robert Soulter, who is also the patriarch of a famous fashion industry clan. Greene's character will join Robert's business and her shocking arrival will turn his family and the legendary label on its ear.
Phillip Noyce is set to direct "Americana" with the script provided by Michael Seitzman. The project will mark the second time Greene starring in ABC's show after she recently appeared on "Pan Am" in recurring basis.

The America’s Next Top Model:Angelea Preston

The America’s Next Top Model all-star season is now over, but even though these season finales tend to be anticlimactic – it’s been a long time since anyone went into ANTM believing that they’re ever going to be famous for anything other than doing the show – what happened Wednesday was strange enough to get some attention.

The finale had proceeded as it typically does, with the three finalists participating in one last location photo shoot and runway performance.  But when it came down to the end of the hour, contestant Angelea Preston was suddenly nowhere to be found. Tyra Banks announced that “unusual circumstances” were at hand, and that Angelea had been disqualified. Lisa D’Amato, who is 30 and thus a lot closer to retirement age for a model than she is to starting a brilliant career, was then declared the winner, with Allison Harvard as the runner-up (the same position she finished in the first time she competed).

The CW issued a statement that addressed the controversy without actually saying what happened: “After production wrapped on the current cycle of America’s Next Top Model, we learned information that made Angelea ineligible and she was subsequently disqualified from the competition.  As a result, new scenes were filmed to address this for the audience during the finale.” The network didn’t say that Angelea was the original winner of the season, though this would seem to be implied by the reshot final scene, and since no one would care if a non-winner had done something worthy of a disqualification.

So what’s going on here? Angelea has yet to say anything (and maybe she can’t – just because she got disqualified doesn’t mean she can’t still be sued), but unconfirmed reports suggest that she might have used her Facebook to spoil the season, perhaps by announcing or implying who the finalists were, and possibly even suggesting she was the winner. Her only response so far came Wednesday night on Twitter, when she thanked her fans for the fact that she was trending.
On the "America's Next Top Model" all stars cycle finale, it came down to Lisa D'Amato, Allison Harvard and Angelea Preston. But at the final judging, only Allison and Lisa were present.

Why? The judges just said that Angelea had been disqualified. But they did not elaborate past that much information. We haven't been able to dig up much either.
Some Yahoo Answers people are saying that Angelea posted "Top Model" spoilers on her Facebook page. Some on Wiki Answers are even saying she said that she won the season, so they re-shot the finale and had Lisa win instead.

We have received an official statement from the CW:
"After production wrapped on the current cycle of America's Next Top Model, we learned information that made Angelea ineligible and she was subsequently disqualified from the competition.  As a result, new scenes were filmed to address this for the audience during the finale."

Takes A Look From Justin And Selena

The Academy Awards happen to be one of the most glamorous nights of the year, filled with over-the-top acceptance speeches and crazy-expensive couture. It can also serve as the glitziest date night for some of the most famous people in the world. With this year's Oscars only days away, we decided to take a look back at last year's show and remember some of the most dazzling couples to hit the Oscar scene.

A very pregnant Natalie Portman took the stage on Oscars night last year to accept her prize for Best Actress for her role in "Black Swan." In between "thank you's" for the Academy, her family and her fellow nominees, she also thanked her main man, and the father of her son, ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied.
"I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to work from such an early age [and] my beautiful love, Benjamin, who has now given me my most important role of my life," she told the room. "Most importantly, my family, my friends and my love, thank you so much."

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez looked like the young A-listers they are when they arrived at the annual Vanity Fair Oscar party, arm in arm. The night was filled with nuzzling, schmoozing and being in love. It also served as the most high-profile appearance the two had made in their time as a couple.

Justin Bieber's track with Far East Movement dropped Friday (February 24), a few days earlier than expected. "Live My Life," which officially hits iTunes on Tuesday, is the lead single off FEM's new album, Dirty Bass. It feels like Bieber is taking a page from the Usher playbook by hooking up with the dance party-minded production team. The club thumper pays homage to tracks that Usher has made with David Guetta and will.i.am, for instance.

The feel-good song is grinding and a little dirty. For Bieber's part, he sings the hook, proclaiming, "I'm gonna live my life/ No matter what/ We party tonight/ I'm gonna live, live, live my life/ I know that we gonna be all right." He then throws in the good-old dance floor chant "woo woo woo" for good measure.

"We're thrilled to have Justin be a part of Dirty Bass," rapper Kev Nish told RollingStone.com about the club-busting collaboration. "Far East Movement has always focused on unexpected collaborations and mashing up musical genres, which keeps making music exciting. 'Live My Life' is a song we think both Far East Movement and Bieber fans will enjoy together."

Another Justin and his lady love also dazzled at the same bash. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel chilled at the party, looking stunning in high-end fashion. The two may have broken up not long after the fete, but the photo remained a reminder of their often-speculated-about romance, before they got back together — and reportedly got engaged — later in 2011.

"True Blood" stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer looked like the grown-up version of Justin and Selena (both guys donned formal wear and both ladies wore blood red).

James Franco and Anne Hathaway may not have been romantically involved, but they were certainly trying their best to romance Oscar viewers as co-hosts. While Hathaway brought her high-energy theater-kid charm to the show, Franco opted for the type of charm we might expect from his "Freaks and Geeks" character Daniel Desario: low-key and a bit confused.

Who will be the biggest couples at the 2012 Oscars? Let us know in the comments!

Avril Lavigne In Beijing Concert For High

Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne arrived from Beijing before midnight Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The 27-year-old pop star is performing Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

At age 16 she signed a $2 million record deal with Arista Records and released her debut album “Let Go” two years later. She went on to score hits like “Complicated” from “Let Go,” and “Girlfriend,” “Sk8er Boi,” “I’m With You,” “My Happy Ending” from succeeding albums. She has reportedly sold more 30 million albums worldwide.

Her concert at the Big Dome is part of her Black Star world tour which winds up in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Hot on the heels of her hand-somely paid appearance on Jiangsu TV's New Year's Gala, nerf-punk sweetheart Avril Lavigne returns to the Middle Kingdom for a Valentine's Day date with Beijing. The performance is one half of the 27-year-old Canadian's two-city Black Star tour ahead of her fifth studio album slated for release later this year.

Despite her relative drop-off from the Western music radar, Lavigne has found new hearts and ears in China. Her man-ager Terry McBride has admit-ted in past interviews that her consumption is greater in Asia than all of the Western Hemi-sphere combined.

It all begs the simple ques-tion: why?
"Almost every one of my classmates had that tape," said Fan Kai, editor of Shanghai's Hit Magazine (a Chinese-language monthly dedicated to Western music), of Lavigne's 2002 debut Let's Go.

Apart from her catchy hooks offering something different from the Chinese mainstream, Kai explained that fans were most drawn to the fact Lavigne penned the songs herself as a teenager. "People need this kind of young generation song-writer in China. It made sense Lavigne would catch on."

Whether you call it cultural exchange or the dark side of globalization, an increas-ing number of fading stars are finding fame in China, albeit with a particular brand of music. In the past year or so, not-so-hot artists such as Westlife, James Blunt and Michael Learns To Rock scored large venue shows, where the "cheap" seats were priced at 280 yuan ($44.50).

Music critic Wang Ge pointed out their appeal lies in producing KTV-friendly melodies suited to a Mandopop palate.

"The music is all about bit-tersweet love, which is always a popular theme in China," said Wang. "Even Mandopop stars know that. They release a few hits, then live off them for life."

In Lavigne's case, her call-ing card remains 2007 hit "Girlfriend," now ingrained in the Chinese pop conscious as the theme for reality show If You Are The One. The song's association with the hip dating show perhaps proves China's mainstream is ready for a smattering of punk attitude. Even Lavigne's ex-husband Deryck Whibley of punk-pop band Sum 41 is getting in on the action, with the group poised to tour China in April.

"It used to be there was no real market for Western pop singers [in China], but that has changed so much in the past few years," said Li Jianhua, a Beijing concert coordinator and self-confessed Lavigne fan. "Fans are drawn to her because a female pop star like her is rare here."
